Jankytown started in 2007 as Cirque du Cliché, a Black Rock City theme-camp, made up of a family of folk who were dedicated to being better artists. Live music and circus arts, Cirque became home to a number of professional as well as brand-new and developing artists. An ethos was born; being an artist was a conscious decision, not a magical snowflake. It required a belief in oneself, and dedication.
In 2012, Cirque spearheaded the first Jankytown at BRC, an all-artist collection of theme camps including Fou Fou Ha Clowns, Ministry of Flow Fire Arts, and Samba Stilt Circus. Each group complemented each other, and the 'family-style' of artist camp was an instant success. |
the Art Car...
2013 saw the first arrival of the Jankytown Trolley, later to be dubbed "the JankaSaurus". A wrecked tour-trolley from SoCal, it was brought back to life by Paramount Auto Body & RV, in Reno, NV. Mutated into a multi-purpose art car, the Jankasaurus became one of the few art cars designed and built to be a mobile stage for live music and performance art. At home on the festival scene as well as Burning Man, the Jank is a do-it-all platform for artistic expression. Flame efx, upper deck, Mackie sound, wireless mixing, a velvety-steam-punked inner cabin and room for 30, the street-legal Jankasaurus is a true gem of an art car.
